July seems to be a month of celebration -- first Independence Day and now a celebration of one of the most influential yoga teachers, B.K.S. Iyengar. The Yogacharya Festival, which celebrates Iyengar's 70 years of yoga, kicks off in Santa Clara, CA July 9th.
The Festival opens with a Five Day Iyengar yoga intensive held from July 9 -13. Advanced certificate holders, all of whom have at least 25 years of experience as teachers and teacher trainers, will be instructing classes. Following the intensive is an Open Weekend (July 13-15) featuring some very familiar names in the yoga world today including Beryl Bender Birch, Seane Corn, Lilias Folan, Gary Kraftsow,
David Life, Tias Little, Shiva Rea and Rodney Yee.
These folks as well as others have also come together to contribute to a book celebrating Iyengar's life and work, Iyengar: The Yoga Master. Compiled and introduced by long-time Iyengar teacher Kofi Busia, the essays represent an internationally diverse group of yoga teachers, as well as celebrities who feel deep gratitude to Iyengar yoga. The book's antecdotes offer readers a view of the great yoga pioneer through the eyes of close friends and senior students.

I've got a full schedule right now, so I won't be heading off to Santa Clara for the festivities. Ah, so many wonderful yoga events, so little time.
Namaste!
