Get it Movin'
I rolled out of bed this morning not feeling the love for a workout and/or yoga practice. My sleeping schedule has been way off lately -- I usually follow an Ayurvedic schedule and am in bed by 10:00PM, but lately I've been hitting the sheets midnight or later (I tend to get that ole second wind shortly after 10:00PM, so if I'm not in bed I'm up doing any number of tasks). I'm also dealing with a troublesome calf muscle, so my first step after getting out of bed doesn't feel so good.
Despite my lack of "get up and go," I knew that some movement would feel good and serve me well. In order to jumpstart things, I broke out my rebounder (I LOVE my rebounder and use it often) and put on my very favorite dance tune -- Jogi by Punjabi MC. The music kicked in and I started bouncing with more energy with Tigger. Viola -- heart-pumping music + moving to the beat = bliss! After 20 minutes I was ready for my high energy version of the 5 Tibetans (I like to mix in Breath of Fire, turning the 5 movements into mini Kundalini Kriyas) -- at this point I switched my soundtrack to Rasa. From there, I let my body take the lead. I melted and flowed through a sweetly-paced Vinyasa flow.
I've been in the flow zone ever since my morning practice. Ahhhhhhh -- now that's what I call a great start to the day. If you're looking for a jumpstart (you don't need a rebounder, you can just dance), I'd suggest anything from Punjabi MC -- it's the Indian version of dance/club music (Everytime I listen, I think about the days that my work buddies and I would go to a nearby Indian buffet and watch the Bollywood movies continually playing on the TV in the dining room). And it never fails to inspire my body to move.
Namaste!

I'm curious about some of this music. When I click on Jogi by Punjabi MC, Amazon offers it but no way to hear the tracks. Can you tell me more about it?

Following an Ayurvedic schedule is probably the best way to go. Ayurveda, the Indian “science of life”, is an ancient system of healing that sees health as a birthright. The Ayurvedic belief is that everything in the universe—including people—is composed of five elements: Infinity, Air, Fire, Water and Earth. Although its ancient philosophies and treatments have been practiced for over 5,000 years, Ayurveda is just starting to be widely recognized.
Sanskrit for Elixir of Life, Amrit, will be a new Resort & Residence in Singer Island, Florida, and one of the few places that actually incorporates Ayurvedic techniques into everyday living. For example, Ayurvedic techniques will be available through its extensive spa menu, as the Aveda Spa at Amrit will offer personalized treatments to identify individuals’ Elemental Natures and evoke a new sense of balance.
Amrit will epitomize indulgent and carefree oceanfront living in a setting that focuses on the mind, body and soul. Fusing premium luxuries with an integrated lifestyle of holistic health and wellbeing through unique partnerships with Aveda Corporation and the Himalayan Institute of Yoga Science and Philosophy, Amrit will be the ultimate combination of Eastern philosophy and lavish western comforts.
Living here, I don't think you'll even have to listen to music to get you going!
