Many of my students complain that when things get busy and time gets tight, their yoga practice falls by the wayside. There are no hard, fast rules regarding the length of your yoga practice, so I suggest taking the pressure off by simply fitting in 10 minutes of practice (it's a lot less intimidating and stress-inducing to fit in 10 minutes of practice than 60-minutes, right?). Believe me, 10 minutes is better than nothing! And the time you spend practicing will pay off in stress dividends. It's a worthwhile time investment. If you're looking for some short yoga practices, I highly recommend the new Padmani Yoga podcast (check out the 30-minute quickie) and the variety of brief yoga practices from Sadie Nardini (I've already recommended her Fists of Fire detox sequence in a previous post).
Another way to banish stress is to chant. Chanting balances and calms, and it's perfect for squeezing into a busy schedule. Try just 10 minutes and notice how it positively affects your inner and outer world. The Buddhist chant Nam Myoho Renge Kyo is not only beautiful but it is believed that by chanting it one is able to reveal the state of Buddhahood in one's life, experienced as the natural development of joy, increased vitality, courage, wisdom and compassion. One of my favorite rockers (and ass-kicking woman) -- Tina Turner -- rocks this chant. Click here to listen (just listening put me in a state of bliss).
Namaste!
