One of the things that I try to remind my students (and myself at times!) is that you can practice yoga anywhere (even if you only have 5 free minutes) -- in the check-out line of the supermarket, on a train, in a plane, in the car -- even on the couch. Yes, that's right -- the couch. Look at it as using the couch as a prop (a very large yoga prop). Hard to believe? Check out this video, Living Room Yoga:
Living Room Yoga - Getting the Most Out of Your Living Room from Jim Ford on Vimeo.
It serves as a reminder that squeezing in 5-10 minutes of yoga into your day is as easy as sitting on your couch. If you're not in your living room and you need a yogic break, try pranayama (perfect for the car, plane, train, and checkout line). Click here for an excellent pranayama primer.
That means that there's always a time and a place for a little yoga. You don't necessarily need 30, 60, or 90 minutes in order to reap the benefits. You don't even necessarily need a mat or a lot of space. Today my schedule has been preempted by circumstances beyond my control. My regular yoga practice has fallen by the wayside (this is rare for me, but it happens from time to time). Instead, I'm squeezing in a few 15-minute practices. Although I prefer a longer practice, these shorter practice are doing the trick today.
You can scrape together 5 minute, right?
Namaste!
