Thank you for this great post on chanting. I believe in the power and benefits of chanting. I've practiced on and off over the years and, just like my yoga practice, when I've done it regularly, I've some amazing results such as better concentration, a feeling of well being and peace, not getting angry and rattled as easily, etc. The last time I did it regularly, I chanted using a mantra and repeating it while counting on my beads. There are numerous books on chanting. I'm including a link to the one I use, which was recommended to me my one of my teachers. http://books.rediff.com/bookshop/bkproductdisplay.jsp?thomas-ashley-farrand-healing-mantras&prrfnbr=60022009&pvrfnbr=83787836&multiple=true&frompg=&isbngroup=0345431707,0345431707,034543170

Hi Jerry --
Good question! Personally, I think that mixing chanting and breathwalking is a wee bit counterproductive. I'm not a fan of multi-tasking, so I think when you're breathwalking, you should concentrate on the breath. If you wanted to incorporate chant, I would suggest a simple SA TA NA MA chant with each step (do this along with the mudra -- touch thumb and index finger together on SA, touch thumb and middle finger together on TA, and so on). You could alternate the chanting while walking with the breathwalking to get a well-rounded practice. I just wouldn't mix the two as I think that would dilute the benefits. I hope my two cents on this topic is helpful.

I LOVE chanting- none of the local studios practice any chanting or beginning and ending 'Ohms'... which makes me a little sad. I love the feeling of connectedness, how chanting ohm allows my mind to center and connects with three separate chakras in my body.
I haven't tried chanting specific sanskrit words.. mostly as it has no meaning for me, and it just doesn't resonate. Perhaps if they were in English or French (which I speak) I might feel more open to trying chanting something other than 'ohm'.
Blessings and happy chanting! :)

I always say if everyone chanted for even five minutes a day, this earth would instantly become paradise. :)

There is some excellent, actual chanting on Ana Brett/Ravi Singh's Journey through the Chakras DVD. It's one thing I love so much about Kundalini -- they don't neglect this part of yoga at all. :)

is it possible to include chanting into breathwalking?
